CD Cover Textual Analysis: Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart

Electra Heart is the second studio album by Marina and the Diamonds (Marina Diamondis). The whole album is based around a character Marina devised called Electra Heart. Throughout the whole album she does not come out of character and all the songs are about Electra at some point in her life. For example, the song 'Fear and Loathing' talks about Electra no longer wants to be a bitter and mean person so she talks about letting that side of her go.

The main image is a close up photograph of the singer potraying Electra Heart. She is wearing very heavy make up which could relate to many of the songs on the album. A good one would be 'Primadonna' which is where she talks about wanting to be given everything and not work, usually only bothered about her appearance which comes across in this picture as her hair is in rollers like she is getting ready for something. A trademark to the singer is the small heart below her left eye, is also matches with the name 'Heart'. This could have been well thought out or maybe just a coincidence. The close up image is a very good way of showing her emotions, she looks serious also a little bit sad at the same time - again, this could be relating to her songs.

The title is quite noticeable as it is capitalised and big enough to be seen but not too big as to distract from the image. It is in quite a retro looking styled font, in capitals. Having capital letters on the title seems to be a very common occurrence on CD album covers, this could be because it makes it stand out more.
