CD Cover Textual Analysis: Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

This is Lana Del Rey's album Born To Die. The font on the titles is very bold, in capital letters in white and light blue, which makes it very eye catching and readable however it is not too vivid - it sticks with a neutral tone throughout. The background is natural and very lit up, with the main colour being blue.

The album feels quite vintage although it is still very well lit as is has hard, front lighting, this is good as it allows you to see the singer very clearly. The only shadows on the whole album covers that are noticeable are the ones created by her face, there are no purposely made shadows. This gives her a very natural feel as if you are with her as you would see her like this in daylight. She is wearing very muted clothing from what you can see (the white sheer blouse) which covers her up a lot, which is different to a lot of female singers her age as they go for sex appeal. The photograph of Lana Del Rey is a mid shot, meaning from her waist up, this is good as we as the audience can see her body language. She is very stood very stern stance, she has a very serious look on her face which could relate to the songs on her album as she does not do very fast paced songs, she has a similar pace and tone in her songs and they are usually quite slow.

The title of the album 'Born To Die' is also the first song on the album and the first single she came out with that made it onto the top 10 UK charts which is why she may have chose this as a title. The album cover however does not seem to relate to the album title in any way as it is very bright and neutral toned, and by the title 'Born To Die' you would think dark colours would be used whilst relating to death, however this could be symbolic of how she is different as her voice and style of music is quite different to anything new we have had in a while.
